Alas, Kristen Ashley has let me down.... I was sorely disappointed in Frankie and Benny's story and have officially declared a 6 month KA respite for fear that I may never recover and learn to love my girl's writing again!

Book Review: Law Man by Kristen Ashley

I am going to start this review by stating I want a Detective Mitch Lawson! Law Man by Kristen Ashley is the third book in the Dream Man series and Mitch is 100% a dream man.

The luck lady in this book is Mara, who unfortunately was raised in the stereotypical trailer park. Mara was able to pull herself up to a new life in Denver where she is lucky to be the neighbor of Mitch Lawson. Along with being extremely shy, Mara has low self-esteem which keeps her from approaching the man of her dreams. On a hot scale of 1-10, Mara rates herself as a 2.5. Luckily Mitch does not have this same view of Mara.

Mitch works for the Denver Police Department as a detective and has had his eyes on Mara since he moved next door to her. Mitch finally gets his chance at Mara after 4 years when she gets a broken sink. That's when their world wind romance begins.  Mitch thought he had a lot on his hands with breaking Mara out of her shell, however Mara comes with baggage in the form of 2 kids.

This book displays that even though you may not have the perfect past, the future is what you make of it. Mitch shows so much patience and love through this book that is makes you wish he really exist. Mara is a little girl within that doubts herself when she has a new crush but takes it to the extreme! Once you meet her mother and aunt, it becomes clear that Mara has a great excuse for her actions. If you ever had any problems with your mom, wait until you see how worse it could be!


Kristen Ashley did it yet again with the perfect pair. Their love story is full of ups and downs and keeps the reader intrigued from beginning to end. Beware: you may want to call out from work the next day when you start this book because you will not want to put it down!

Book Review: Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley

Holy mother of all things perfect… Kristen Ashley did it again! Games of the Heart is book four in The Burg series, and as with all things Kristen Ashley it is absolutely the BOMB!  Games of the Heart is Mike’s book which I have been dying to get my hands on since finishing up At Peace.  I just knew, knew, knew when Kristen left Mike heartbroken in At Peace that she had someone special up her sleeve for Mike, and boy did she deliver in Dusty.  Dusty is feisty, loving, and beyond self-confident.  She just breathes life into each and every character in this book.

 What I loved most about this book is the character development that takes place for both the major and minor players in the story.  While Mike and Dusty’s relationship is the focal point of the book, Kristen Ashley creatively weaves a secondary storyline for Mike’s shy and unsure daughter Clarice, and Dusty’s love em and leave em, overly responsible nephew Finley.  The most shocking development for me however was the growth shown by Mike’s ex Audrey.  She went from #1 Bitch on the planet to really taking a look at herself and finding out that she didn’t much like what she saw.  By the end of the book she had truly became a character I could embrace.

 I’m on pins and needles waiting for my next dose of KA with Frankie and Benny’s story which is due out later this year.  I’m almost certain Kristen has set up the possibility to revisit The Burg to tell the wonderful stories of the teenage love affairs that take place as minor storylines in the Burg series.  I can totally see her telling the stories of Cal and Vi’s girls…..squee!  I digress from my obsession of ensuring there will be Kristen Ashley books for me to read when I’m old and gray.  Anyway….if you are a KA fan like me you will certainly not be disappointed with Games of the Heart.
