June Mayson and Evan Barrister’s whirlwind courtship resulted in a secret marriage right before he left for boot camp. Evan knows deep in his gut that June is too good for him, but after getting a taste of the beautiful life they can have together, he’s unwilling to let her go. June promises to wait for him, knowing neither time or distance will ever change her feelings for Evan—that is until she’s served with divorce papers while he’s overseas and she’s forced to let him go.
Her marriage and divorce a well-kept secret, the last person June expects to run into when she moves back to her hometown is Evan. Angry over the past, she does everything within her power to ignore the pull she feels whenever he is near. But how can she ignore the pain she sees every time their eyes meet? How can she fight the need to soothe him even if she knows she’s liable to get hurt once again?
Is it possible for June and Evan to find their way back to each other again? Or will they be stopped by an outside force before they ever have a shot?
Aurora Rose Reynolds is one of my favorite authors for the contemporary romance genre and my love affair started with her Until Series. Until June is a story that I have been dying to get my hands on since finishing up Until Jax because I wanted to see how Evan and June's story would play out. Well as expected, ARR rocked my world and I loved every single minute of it!
Evan and June's story started 5 years ago while she was in college. After a whirlwind courtship, the couple gets married right before Evan leaves for deployment. While away, something happens that makes Evan feel as though June is not the woman for him and so he divorces her before he returns home. Having never fully understood what happened, June is devastated over the loss because Evan was her BOOM! When he shows up in Tennessee and is somehow working for her cousin Jax, June doesn't know whether to give into the pull to be around Evan or keep him out of her life for good.
This book was filled with so much angst for both characters. They were both left broken because of Evan's betrayal and neither one of them have moved on from one another. When June's life is threatened, Evan is determined to keep her safe and June is determined to guard her heart. I loved how ARR built the anger between June and Evan and then allowed them both to slowly let it go. The byplay between Evan and Asher was intense especially after Asher learns about June and Evan's past.
As with previous books, all of the gang was pretty much front and center and I fully enjoyed seeing how the family came to grips with June and Evan as a couple. I loved that readers get to see what's happening with July and Wes. I'm looking forward to reading more about the rest of the Mayson gang. I'm giving Until June 5 Sweltering Keys.
Seeing Evan again is taking a toll on me, I can’t sleep and my mind is in a constant state of turmoil. I wake up in the middle of the night from dreams of us. The memories of him, of us are too much. Some memories have the ability to heal. The ability to light up the dark because the beauty of the memory is so bright you’re still able to bask in it.
But the memories of us are killing me slowly. They remind me that for one moment I had everything while reminding me it’s gone. It’s the realization that we’re done that’s killing me. The realization that I can see him but can’t touch him that he exist but he’s not mine is agonizing.
