They’re tough. They’re brave. And they’ll do anything for the women they love. They’re the Alpha Ops. In the tradition of Suzanne Brockmann and Julie Ann Walker comes a sizzling new high-octane romantic suspense novel from rising star Emmy Curtis.Emmy Curtis just keeps getting better with her new Alpha Ops series and I especially LOVED her newest book, Pushing the Limit featuring Matt and Harry from book 1. Pushing the Limit picks up a few months after book one with both Harry and Matt thinking about one another and wondering what would have come of their passionate encounter if they had had the opportunity to take things all the way. Both characters have moved on with their respective lives until a chance encounter brings them back together where they must work learn to trust one another in an effort to survive.
After their one-night fling at a wedding, archaeologist Henrietta “Harry” Markowitz thought she’d never see war hero Matt Stanning again. So when they’re paired up to investigate a military plane crash in Iraq, she’s not sure if the three-month reunion is serendipitous or cursed. What she does know is this gorgeous man lights her body on fire—and incredible sex is always a welcome distraction.
Air Force Sergeant Matt Stanning has been called a hero, but he feels nothing like one when he realizes the sexy blonde in his bed is the widow of his fallen brother-in-arms. Even worse, he actually has to work with her, and she’s unearthed evidence that points to a military conspiracy. If they dig deeper, they’ll put their lives in danger. If they don’t, they’ll never know the truth—not only about the mysterious plane crash, but about each other.
Okay, I admit it, I am an Indiana Jones junkie and I love all things adventurous, especially archeology, so this book just really rocked my world. While Harry and Matt's interactions are a steady theme throughout the book, the true jewel lies in Curtis's use of action and adventure to really bring the story to life. Having Harry and Matt both confront their pasts in the very spot that Danny died was awe inspiring and really solidified the basis of their relationship to one another. I won't go into too many details because I don't wish to spoil anything for the readers but Curtis really does bring both characters full circle by allowing them to come to grips with how they have been living their individual lives.....or lack thereof......and figuring out a way to move forward.
I also enjoyed the secondary characters such as Molly, David, and Mueen. The Sheik was nothing like I would have expected, which really added to his overall role. Mueen has a surprising past that I hope we will one day get more insight to and oh boy am I looking forward to learning more about David.
If you love action and adventure along with a side of romance, pick up a copy of
Pushing the Limit, you will most certainly not be disappointed. I'm giving this one 4 Scorching Keys!
