From award-winning author Susannah Sandlin comes a heart-pounding romantic thriller that pits a quick-witted scientist and a scarred ex–combat diver against a ruthless billionaire treasure hunter with ties to the White House.
When biologist Gillian Campbell makes an offhand comment about a family curse during a TV interview, she has no idea what her words will set in motion. Within days, Gillian finds herself at the mercy of a member of the C7, a secretive international group of power brokers with a dangerous game: competing to find the world’s most elusive treasures, no matter the cost, in money or in lives.
To save her family, Gillian teams up with Shane Burke, a former elite diver who’s lost his way, navigating the brutal “death coast” of the North Atlantic to find what the collector seeks: the legendary Ruby Cross of the Knights Templars, stolen by Gillian’s ancestor and lost at sea four hundred years ago.
Book Review:
A copy of this book was provided to me in exchanged for an honest review.
This book had me on pins and needles. I will NEVER be able to look or eat another chocolate covered cherry the same. The way this story played out was perfect. Gillian, Shane, and Jagger made a great team. Jagger's love of the Rolling Stones always made his scenes more interesting because he had a song for every occasion. If Jagger was not singing, there was a serious problem.
Shane and Gillian both had a past situation that brought tears to me eyes. Shane had a horrible ending to a dive expedition that landed him doubting himself and overall feeling like crap. Since his accident, Shane has not been on another dive. He just take jobs here and there is make a quick buck but for the most part he was one with his boat The Evangeline. At the time when Shane was about to lose the last thing that kept him grounded, Gillian walks in and saves his life. (Saving his life may be an overstatement but in the end things make a full circle.) Gillian was in a horrible accident where she lost some very important people in her life. As a result, she does her best to isolate herself from the world. Other than catching gators, her only companion is her best friend Vivian. Weston knew what buttons to push for everyone on Gillian's team to keep them "motivated."
The book has a great storyline. I was excited to see the way Gillian and Shane were able to work through their demons and make a life together. Poor Shane was a grown man with a little boy inside that still needed healing. Gillian was a damaged woman that needed the right man to show her life could go on. These two were able to tackle the challenge of past issues and help each other see the light at the end of the tunnel. The people that we get to meet along the adventure were awesome. I loved Shane's uncle Charlie. That old man shoots first and ask questions later. Cleo and Chevy are the cutest rebel couple ever. Cleo patches up every gunshot wound while Chevy is out sneaking on boats and kidnapping people. We get a few more people along the way but these were the best. I have a total,"THAT'S WHAT YOU GET," moment at the end of the book. Weston got what he deserved plus some.
Overall, I give this book 4 notes and 3 flames. You get one hot and steamy moment but for the moment part it's all about the storyline. Believe me, you won't be disappointed.

Susannah Sandlin writes paranormal romance and romantic thrillers from Auburn, Alabama, on top of a career in educational publishing that has thus far spanned five states and six universities—including both Alabama and Auburn, which makes her bilingual. She grew up in Winfield, Alabama, but was also a longtime resident of New Orleans, so she has a highly refined sense of the absurd and an ingrained love of SEC football, cheap Mardi Gras trinkets, and fried gator on a stick.
She’s the author of the award-winning Penton Legacy paranormal romance series, a spinoff novel, Storm Force, a standalone novelette, Chenoire, and a new romantic thriller series, The Collectors, beginning this month with Lovely, Dark, and Deep. Writing as Suzanne Johnson, she also is the author of the Sentinels of New Orleans urban fantasy series. Her Penton novel, Omega, is currently nominated for a 2013 Reviewer’s Choice Award in Paranormal Romance from RT Book Reviews magazine.
