She needed to risk the truth to get a second chance...
Poppy Erickson had spent the year wondering how all their lives might have been different after hearing the deathbed confession of her childhood friend. She'd left South Dakota years ago because she couldn't bear to watch the man she loved loving another woman. But now she knows the truth. She'll keep the promise she made to a friend, but will Logan understand when he learns the truth? More important, can they again recapture the passion that had been between them all those years ago?
He needed to face the past to get the love of a woman he thought he'd lost…
Everyone knows that the Dakotas didn't get the name Badlands for nothing. Harsh weather and rough living are a way of life. But single dad, Logan McKinnon, had seen more than his share of bad times after the death of his wife a year ago. The last thing he needs is Poppy Erickson, an old flame and his late wife's best friend, showing up unannounced to help after devastating floods nearly washed away their hometown. With no place to stay in town, he has no choice but to offer her a bed at his house.
But can he live under the same roof with a woman he'd once loved passionately without feeling he's betraying his late wife?
Book Review:
This book had me on pins and needles the entire time. I felt so bad for Poppy because she had to work so hard to keep the promise she made to her best friend Kelly. Through the whole book, Poppy keeps talking about the timing needing to be right to tell Logan the truth. In my little giant brain, I keep asking myself," Oh goodness what did Kelly do." SWEET DESTINY I did not see that truth coming. Kelly was a true piece of work but I have to commend Poppy because some things are hard to forgive.
Logan is such a great guy and his son Keith is just to cute for words. Throughout the book, Logan is trying to work over the guilt he feels for still being in love with Poppy. The big issue for Logan is that when his late wife, Kelly, was alive he still thought about Poppy. This made his feel like he was betraying Kelly in a way. Poor Logan just did not know all the secrets that Kelly was keeping from him.
When Poppy arrives back in Dakota to help with the clean-up, she did not expect to get the greeting she received from Logan. These two have not seen each other since Poppy's parent sold their ranch and moved to New York. Logan feels that Poppy was careless with her friendship with Kelly especially after Kelly became sick and passed away. What Logan didn't know was that Kelly and Poppy stayed in touch until Kelly started to tell Poppy the truth. Logan was so in the dark about stuff that he didn't even know that Poppy talked on the phone with Keith. Once all the truths were out on the table, I was over the moon happy with the ending. I hope we get a novella about these two because I would love to see how their story continues.

She'd spent a lifetime packing armor around her heart...
Raised an Army brat, Regis Simpson was used to calling new towns home, learning to quickly make friends but never letting anyone get too close. When devastating floods tear through the Badlands of South Dakota, she thinks Rudolph is just another town that needs to be rebuilt. Nothing more. The sooner she gets her work done, the sooner the people of Rudolph can heal and she can move on to the next town in need. She never counted on the sexy town doctor, Keith "Hawk" McKinnon or his determination to break down walls she'd spent a lifetime building, making it impossible for her to leave.
He's determined to break down her walls and give her a reason to stay...
Nothing pained Hawk McKinnon more than seeing people he'd known his whole life hurting. He traded a high-paying salary at a city hospital to come back to Rudolph and make a difference where he'd dug his roots. When the beautiful Regis Simpson comes to town offering help, he's immediately drawn to her even though she's spent a lifetime believing that everyone she loves leaves. Now she does the leaving and once her work is done, she'll be leaving again. He's determined to do everything possible to make her stay.
Book Review:
O-M-FREAKING-G this book brought me to tears! Regis and Hawk pretty much have a love at first sight type of thing going on but Regis is afraid to put herself out there. Hawk is the sexy town doctor that has this adventurous past while Regis is an military brat that never stayed in one place long enough to build roots. Regis' story is one that touched my heart because I can so understand her feeling.
"You see, I've spent a lifetime of seeing people go, living with families who were suffering through waiting for people to come home, and sometimes they never did. You ask me where my heart is? It broke a long time ago. How many times can a heart break before it never heals, Keith? And you want me to risk it again?" ~Regis to Hawk
That line absolutely had me balling. Every woman has had that one heart break that makes them second guess risking their heart again. Hawk does not take this lightly and understands that Regis has a fragile heart. His kind words and actions are what will eventual bring Regis' resistance down.
Hawk is SOOO my dream man. He just needs a little paranormal piece but otherwise my dream man. Hawk is straight forward with his desires and feelings to the point that there is no guessing what he wants. LOVE IT! When Regis and Hawk went out to the mill to do the inspection and Hawk picked her up so that Regis would not re-injury her leg, my mind was scream DAYUM I WANT ONE OF HIM!

Book Description:
Hotshot Sam McKinnon was always leaving town, chasing another fire until his own hometown became vulnerable during the fire season after a devastating winter flood left debris and destruction in its path. He didn't expect out of town dispatcher, Summer Bigelow, to catch his eye or his heart.
It hadn't been Summer's idea to move from Providence to South Dakota, but when a serial murderer suddenly turns his attention on Summer, her boss insists she leave town...at least until the heat dies down. She's dealt with high tension, life or death situations many times in her job. It isn’t until she meets Sam McKinnon and falls for the sexy Hotshot that she really begins to know fear. The fear of losing someone she loves.
Book Review:
Sam and Summer's book was not my favorite of the three. Their attraction was like Hawk and Regis but the reason behind why Summer was in South Dakota to begin with was not followed through very well. Sam and Summer have a beautiful love that I would like to see continued but I also want to read more about Summer's drama.
Sam is a Hotshot fireman and very sexy at that. (Sam can come put my fire out any day.) He is the type of fireman that goes where his team is needed. Due to the horrible storm that hit South Dakota, Sam choose to go back to his hometown to help with fire prevention. Kate was overjoyed to have all her boys finally home and things got even better for her when Sam got a little twinkle in his eye Summer.
Summer is a police dispatch in Rhode Island but became part of a situation when she caught the attention of a serial killer. The police chief thought it would be best if she moved away for a short time until the serial killer is found to keep Summer safe. Who knew that South Dakota and Sam McKinnon would be what walked into her life. In all, Summer handled the whole move well but like any chick she needed someone to confide in.
Like I said Dakota Heat was not favorite book. The storyline went by a little too fast and for Summer to be so terrorized she fell for Sam too fast. I understand that the time span was over a Summer but Summer was pretty much ready to pour her heart out to Sam after he brought her a bottle of water. Things did improve in the book when Sam got into a dangerous situation with a fire in the canyon but WHEW that was about the end of the book. What I didn't like too much was that Summer was running from a man that was obsessed with her back in Rhode Island but once she arrived in South Dakota we only get one scene where the situation is really brought back up. I look forward to reading more because I want to know more about the serial killer plus I think that the older brother, Wade, is not dead. (Just my theory.)

Overall these three books collectively get 4 notes and 3 flames. I would have loved to get more detail about my new book boyfriend Hawk.
