Today we welcome author Krystal Shannan to our blog to tell us more about herself and for us to preview two of her HOT series; Vegas Mates and A MacLaughlin Family.  I had the pleasure of reading the first book in both series, and I will definitely be checking out the rest of her books.

About the Author:

Krystal Shannan goes to sleep every night dreaming of mythical realms with werewolves, vampires, fae, and dragons. Occasional a fabulous, completely human story slips into the mix, but powers and abilities usually crop up without fail, twisting reality into whatever her mind can conceive.

As a child, her parents encouraged her interests in Ancient Greek and Roman mythology and all things historical and magickal. As an adult, the interests only grew. She is a child of Neverland and refuses to ever stop believing in fairies. She is guilty of indulging in and being a Buffy the Vampire Slayer groupie as well as an Angel fan. For those of you unfamiliar with the world of Joss Whedon, you are missing out!

She also makes sure to watch as many action and adventure movies as possible. The more exciting the better. Yippee-Ki-Yay… If you don’t know the end of that phrase, then you probably don’t like the same movies.

She enjoys reading romance in all genres, but especially paranormal. Her favorite book is ACHERON by Sherrilyn Kenyon. But really, if it has a ‘Happily Ever After’, she’s on board!
Krystal writes stories full of action, snark, magick, a little bit of humor, and heart-felt emotion. If you are looking for leisurely-paced sweet romance, her books are probably not for you. However, for those looking for a magickal ride, filled with adventure, passion, and just a hint of humor. Welcome home.

Author Interview:

What inspired you to become a writer?

The stories rambling around in my head 24/7. The characters and movies rolling constantly are hard to ignore. But honestly, I think I've wanted to write for as long as I've been able to read. I have notebooks of stories I wrote going all the way back to the second grade.

I enjoyed Chasing Sam. Are all the books in this series going to be novella length?

I'm so glad you enjoyed Chasing Sam. The other three books are longer, more of short novel length.

Which do you find harder to write, paranormal romance or suspense?

Hmmmm...paranormal romance is my favorite thing to write, as far as suspense, it's a little harder. I have to work carefully to make sure the reader doesn't find out too much too soon. Building to that exciting satisfying climax is worth it, but a little harder, especially since the characters in my head usually make the paranormal part easy.

If the MacLaughlin Series was chosen for TV, who would play the MacLaughlin brothers?

Ooooh, how fun! Let's see. For Trevor (Chris Pine) for Caiden (Theo James) for Harvey (Eric Christian Olsen) and for Lizzy (Kristen Bell). (You can check out my Pinterest board)

Who is your favorite Romance Author and what makes them your favorite?

The list is soooo long, but Sherrilyn Kenyon is at the top. Her world building and characters are my haven. I love her stories and consider her my favorite because hers are some of the only books I reread regularly.

What book/books are are reading now?

I'm currently working through a historical series written by a friend of mine, Suzan Tisdale. Hot highlander in kilts....nomnomnomnomnom!

There you have it folks.....a little about Krystal Shannan! Oh and just to comment on her dream cast, I'm sooooooooo on board with Theo James!  The dude is just HOT! *sighs*

Chasing Sam (Vegas Mates, #1)Title:  Chasing Sam
Series:  Vegas Mates, Book 1
Author:  Krystal Shannan
Genre:  Paranormal Romance
Rating:  3.5 Notes, 4 Flames

Goodreads Synopsis:

Samantha Demakis doesn’t want a mate right now. She wants to finish her degree and work as a doctor in third world countries. Her birth-rite and family obligations to her status as the first daughter of a noble family beg to differ. In fact, even her wolf seems to be against her. When a chance encounter reveals the man who might just be a perfect fit, will she run? Or will she fight?

Chase Michaels has been alone for seventy-five years. He’s fought in Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, and Afghanistan in the US Army. Somewhat resigned to never finding his true mate, he is shocked when his wolf reacts so strongly to a woman he runs into in the airport. Unprepared for the politics and snobbery of the noble families, Chase finds himself fighting in a different type of war —a war for the heart of a woman he knows should be his.

A lot of things are chasing Sam, but who or what will catch her in the end?

I loved loved loved the world Shannan builds with Chasing Sam by placing shifters in social castes where the elite society shifters utilize traditional rituals for mating through arranged marriages between their offspring and the offspring of other elitists families.  The heroine, Sam, is from such a family, however she strongly disagrees with the barbaric traditions and would much rather finish her studies of becoming a doctor than participate in her family arranged mate hunt.  Hoping she has escaped her fate by staying away from home for most of her 25th birth year, Sam has no idea that her brief trip home for Christmas will result in her life changing forever.

Chase, of course, is not from an elite family caste, and is shocked when he encounters Sam for the first time in the airport.  His wolf is intrigued by this woman and he just can't seem to get her out of his head.  Upon learning who she is, Chase with the help of his younger brother, seeks Sam out to test out his wolf's theory that she is indeed his mate.  When Chase and Sam meet again, the attraction is strong.......but there's just one major problem......Sam's father already has 3 suitors lined up for her mate hunt.

Chasing Sam is a Great start to what I think will be an excellent short story series.  Krystal Shannan really pulled me in from the very start of the book, and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next!  Shannan did an awesome job of laying the foundation for future books and I'm most certainly looking forward to seeing what will happen with Sam's mother after the ending of this book.  My only complaint is that I Freakin wanted more!!!!!  After such a huge build-up between Sam and her mother, I was hoping to at least get an inside glimpse of how Sam's mother reacts to the finality of Sam's mate hunt!  Alas I was not treated to that information but Shannan does hint there's more to come on that particular subject.  I'm giving Chasing Sam 3.5 notes and 4 flames!  Add the Vegas Mates Series to your reading list today!

Trevor (A MacLaughlin Family Novella)Title:  Trevor
Series:  A MacLaughlin Family, Book 1
Author:  Krystal Shannan
Genre:  Contemporary Romance
Rating;  3 Notes, 5 Flames

Goodreads Synopsis:

Trevor MacLaughlin has been in love with his sister's best friend for years. But, he let her move away to college without ever telling her how he felt and hasn't seen her since.

Now, years later, a second chance with the woman of his dreams practically falls into his lap.

Will he take a leap of faith and tell her how he feels? How he's always felt? Or will the woman he knows is meant to be his slip through his fingers a second time?

Trevor is a really cute and sweet short story that reminded me of life with my hubby quite a bit.  Trevor and Lorelei practically grew up together because Lorelei was Trevor's sister's best friend. (I know that one was a complete mouth full)  They both have had a huge crush on one another for years, but neither mustered up the nerve to act on those feelings.  When Lorelei moves back home after college, Lizzy, Trevor's little sister, decides it's high time for these two to stop flirting around one another and get together all ready!  To make sure it happens, Lizzy convinces Lorelei to work part-time for the family business and Trevor.

I enjoyed TrevorIt was a quick read and I thought it was hell-a cute how they were complete opposites.  (kinda like me and my hubby).  Trevor is extremely neat and Lorelei is totally messy, but the two seem to work well together especially after they got over their individual hang-ups and decided to get together.  I thought the ending was really sweet and definitely unexpected.  I didn't see that one coming especially not so soon.  I'm looking forward to learning more about the other members of the MacLaughlin family.  I'm giving this one 3 notes and 5 flames.  Check out A MacLaughlin Family Series by adding it to your Goodreads list today!  NO really go add it to your list!
