Bare It All: Love Undercover, Book 2 | [Lori Foster]Title:  Bare It All
Series:  Love Undercover (Book 2)
Author:  Lori Foster
Narrator:  Jim Frangione
Genre:  Romantic Suspense

I just can't get enough of Lori Foster's Alpha male detective series!  Bare It All is the 2nd book in the series and while I didn't love it as much as I loved Run the Risk, it was still really good!  This book features Reece and Alice's story and picks up right where Run the Risk  left off with Reece trying desperately to figure out what Alice is hiding.  All of my favorite characters are back including the hilarious Rowdy.

Detective Reece Bareden is tall, blond, beautiful, and deadly.  He's been checking out his strange and reclusive neighbor for quite some time but doesn't seem to gain her attention no matter what he does....that is until he rescues a dog.  Reece finds it strange that Alice won't even look him in the eye much less say hi until one morning he's out walking his new dog and she stops and gives the dog some attention.  His suspicion of Alice gets blown through the roof after his last case comes to a head and he discovers the elusive, sweet Alice has weapons hidden all over her apartment.  Determine to know what Alice is hiding, Reece gets close to Alice and gives in to his desire to lay her bare.

Long time readers of Lori Foster books first met Alice in Trace of Fever, book 2 of her Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series.  Alice had been kidnapped and held hostage by a mad man for more than a year when Trace discovers her secret.  After murdering her capture, Alice moves in Reece's apartment building determined to move on with her life while constantly looking over her shoulder.  A sense of courage born of her brutal past, Alice reaches out and helps a young woman in need and opens to the door to find herself right back where she's been running from....in danger!

As with any book read by Jim Frangione, I loved the narration of this book.  He just does such a good job and narrating the characters and making listeners feel like they have a good grasp of the character's personality.  And....although the narration was excellent, Bare It All  was just an okay book for me mainly because I couldn't really connect to Alice.  Her character was just a bit too cold for me and when she did try to heat up, it was with constant insecurities.  Even more, I couldn't quite get on board with her being "billy badass" one minute and mild and meek the next.  The chemistry between her and Reece just didn't pop off the pages for me (or in this case pop off my headphones) like Logan and Pepper but it was still a good story.

I am really looking forward to Rowdy's book Getting Rowdy, as well as Dash of Peril which will be Dash and Lieutenant Peterson's book.  Anything featuring Rowdy is sure to be a hoot, he really cracks me up.  I'm also looking forward to seeing how Dash pursuit of Lieutenant Peterson works out.  She seems a bit put-off by his presence but then that could all be an act.  I'm giving this one 3 notes and 4 flames (really 3.5 notes)!
